Jelle Rietveld (1981) graduated with honours from the photo academy in
Amsterdam in 2016 and became New Dutch Photography talent in 2017.
Emotions and impulses form the basis for his abstract photographic work. In
his last series ‘Seven’ Rietveld highlights the (choice-related) stress in
contemporary society by partly letting go of control. By playing with light and
shadows and combining them with colors and graphic lines, Rietveld’s work
can be seen as an instinctive process in which seemingly hidden emotions
are brought to the surface. By endlessly cropping and adjusting these images
he aims to disrupt his own and the viewer’s sense of recognition in the
images, challenging the viewer to let go of rational thought when perceiving
his works. Rietveld lives and works in Amsterdam.
